Fire, ambulance report: Firefighting gear declared surplus

County records report

MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners received reports from the ambulance and fire department services on Monday, March 30.

The fire department weekly report shows that there were 16 total calls for the past week which brings the yearly total up to 197 calls. The calls were nine wildland fires, one natural gas leak, one fire alarm, one vehicle fire, one mutual aid, and three motor vehicle accidents.

Later in the meeting Fire Chief Randy Hegwald presented a resolution for surplus property to be taken out of commission to the commissioners. The property included 26 bunker coats, 30 sets of bunker pants, 10 sets of woodland gear, 20 miscellaneous suspenders and 15 old structure fire helmets.

Hegwald said that he had some departments interested in the bunker gear but the suspenders are stretched out and the woodland gear has holes and tears in it so those will just be disposed of .

The commissioners approved the resolution to make the above items surplus property.

Then Hegwald told the commissioners that he was doubling the regular order of 10 sets per year to 20 in 2026 because none were purchased in 2025. He explained to the commissioners that some of the money that got transferred over to special equipment for 2026 was to purchase the 2025 bunker gear. So, 10 sets will come out of the money transferred to the special equipment fund and 10 sets will come out of the 2026 budget.
