MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners received reports from the ambulance and fire department services on Monday, June 16.

Fire Chief Randy Hegwald reported that there were six calls for the past week which brings the yearly total up to 310 calls. He reported that number was a little over average for this time of year compared to the last couple of years.

Hegwald said he had just received notification from Kansas Worker Cooperative for Counties (KWORCC). He said that when they were walking through the fire stations doing inspections, they had asked about anything we could use training wise and I gave them three quotes on training mannequins.

“They notified me right before I came over here that they approved the purchase of a training mannequin,” said Hegwald.

Hegwald explained that the mannequin was an extrication model. He said the mannequin was an interactive dummy that can be used for setting it up in vehicles and used for extrication exercises where firefighters can deal with pinned limbs and similar situations.. Also, it can be used in smoky environments by setting it up and it allows firefighters to go in search and rescue and train on it. It has an interactive voice box to it and can be programmed to sit there and yell for help or different things like that.

Hegwald asked for permission to order this mannequin out of special equipment money for approximately $3,900 to $4,000 and it will be reimbursed by KWORCC. The commissioners approved Hegwald purchasing the Bullex 110 smart dummy not to exceed $4,000 with the reimbursement coming from KWORCC.
